As I try to tell you a little about me, I realize how diverse my personal experience has been and how many turns my life has taken. I was born in Detroit, Michigan in 1947 and my family lived in that area until I was about 12 years old. As so many others did during that time, my family decided to venture west. We moved to Los Angeles around 1960 and I spent the early 1960’s in elementary and high school there. After graduating from Glendale High School in 1965, I was drafted and entered the Army during the Viet Nam war. I served as an Army medic in Germany from 1966 to 1968. After military service, I returned to the Los Angeles area and attended Glendale Community College for two years until I could qualify for admission to the University of Southern California. I studied psychology at USC. After college, it was time to make a living. I was fortunate enough to land a part-time position with a local radio station. That job led me on a path to my first career, broadcasting.

During nearly 15 years reporting the news on radio and television and working in a number of Northwest markets, I met the love of my life, Tracy Barry. We shared the same careers and goals and thoroughly enjoyed our responsibilities as journalists. Along the way we realized that one of us would need to change careers to be able to remain together and not become competitors. It was time to look at other options.

In 1992, I joined Peter Jacobsen Productions (think “Fred Meyer Challenge”) in sports marketing. I worked in the capacity of Vice President of Sales for Peter, managing sponsorship sales for golf tournaments through five offices across the country. It was an exciting job with great opportunities and I had the pleasure of meeting some of the finest people in the world of golf. I also worked side-by-side with some of the best people I’ve ever met. But, with two young children, the travel requirements of managing a national sales network became an obstacle to time with the family. I left PJP on the best of terms.

Real Estate is literally my third career. With my sales background and extensive contacts throughout the Portland area, I knew that Real Estate would be a natural move for me. Having friends in the business also helped and they pointed me in the direction of the Hasson Company. This has been one of the best moves I could ever have made. This company represents the finest qualities found in any business endeavor.

My wife Tracy and I have two daughters we adopted from China through an incredible organization named Holt International. Through their help we experienced first-hand the thrill of bringing two beautiful girls into our home. We also experienced first-hand the dramatic need for more adoptive parents and foster-care programs to care for so many more children. That’s why I’ve committed 10 to 15 percent of my real estate commissions to Holt International. Together, we can make this a very positive experience, for us…and, for so many others.

My goal in this business, as in life, is to always create a winning scenario for everyone involved. It’s about you and me being successful in finding the right house at the right price; or gaining you the greatest benefit from the sale of your home. But, it should also be about giving back something of ourselves and our efforts to the broader community. I’ve been in sales most of my life and my greatest success has come when the parties to any deal are all winners; but more than that, they feel they’re truly making a difference in the lives of others.
